What is Mountain Day – 山の日 (Yamano Hi)?
Mountain day is relatively new Japanese holiday. It is usually celebrated on August 11th.
The holiday is to celebrate Japan’s terrain and its connection to the nation’s geography and culture.
In 2021, the date of Mountain day will be moved to Sunday August 8th as special accommodation to support the closing ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics. Monday August 9th will be a substitute holiday since the holiday falls on Sunday.
